The War On Drugs is Over!

Thanks to Lil' Wayne, and to a less tongue-in-cheek extent The Onion, our war on drugs has come to a complete halt. The solution? Turn him loose on all the world's drugs and have him ingest them all. It was only a matter of time before authorities decided to use celebrities in the war on drugs beyond public service announcements.

The only real question is, why wasn't Keith Richards tapped for this? The man's done so many drugs that his skin has hallucinogenic properties.

TF2 videos

It's of no surprise to anyone who reads this blog that I love Team Fortress. I really think there's something for everyone and, though not perfect, comes about as close as you're gonna get in the first person shooter realm.

There's just something about throwing around jars of piss that really resonates with me.

Anyway, in my zealotry, I find a ton of videos that range from the pretty amazing to the "meh". Lately a few of them have caught my eye. You can find them after the break.

Meet the Crashes. Think America's Funniest Home Videos meet TF2.

Girlfriend Fortress. Someone recorded their girlfriend playing TF2 for the first time to fairly hilarious results. I think this is actually pretty close to my first experience ("how come I can't shoot while I'm invisible?")
Watch more videos of TF2

The always fun Nom nom nom server played a pacman map to awesome results.

Someone modded a female scout class. It's not perfect, as you can see, but it's neat.

Surprise Spy update!

Valve, in true creative fashion, dropped the bomb that the upcoming Sniper pack soon to be released is instead a Spy pack. Turns out the Sniper really was a Spy. With the news, we get word of two new unlockables, the Dead Ringer and the Cloak and Dagger.

With the Dead Ringer equipped, when you take a non-lethal shot, you immediately cloak for up to 8 seconds and leave a corpse behind. The amount of confusion and insanity this thing can leave is going to be nuts. Now, even when you identify and shoot at a Spy, you can't be so sure you actually killed him, leaving you even more paranoid and confused. On a server with friendly fire on, this is going to be absolute mayhem.

The Cloak and Dagger is a new cloaking device that will allow you to be cloaked indefinitely provided you aren't moving. In fact, that's the only way the device will recharge, is to stand still. It's a trade-off, but a fair one - it's a better cloaking device, but if you want it to recharge, you have to effectively take yourself out of the game for a few seconds.

And not only did Valve see fit to surprise-release a pack for my favorite class, but they also put out a new "Meet The" video, "Meet the Spy". It's hilarious, fitting, and embedded just below this sentence.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say Valve was trying to get into my pants. I can't wait for the Spy update.

Patrick Stewart Appreciation Day

I don't think I can sum it up any better than my friend: Patrick Stewart is an American hero that just happened to be born and lives overseas. Don't believe him? Take a look at this old bit he did for the Conan O'Brien show and you tell me otherwise.

Her Morning Elegance

I saw this video last week, and it seemed appropriate for Valentine's Day. Of course having missed that boat, I do so now.

The song, "Her Morning Elegance" by Oren Lavie, is just a really happy song/video about a man's deep admiration of the quirky beauty the woman in his life has. That, and it's all done in really well-done, very imaginative stop-motion animation. Really cool video.

Thriller in Acapella

This is seriously impressive. Some guy recorded 64 audio tracks of himself, and splices them all together to get acapella Thriller. Enjoy!

Coolest guy on crutches EVER

This video by Joey Garfield is truly amazing. He did a video to RJD2's "Work it Out". RJD2 is awesome in its own right, but that guy dancing... wow. You have to watch it to understand.

Is there even a term for this kind of dancing? Crutch breaking? Extreme crutch stylin'? Being totally awesome? I bet that fedora is the source of that guy's abilities...

The Legend of Neil 5

Another Thursday, another episode of The Legend of Neil, brought to you by the good people at effin funny. It's NSFW, as always, but I just can't get enough of this series.

Which brings me to sadder news. It appears that the next episode, which will air in 2 weeks' time (Sept 4th), is the finale. Come on, guys! Neil has like 8 other levels to go!

Cooking gone wrong: Paula really really hates you for some reason

You ever watch a cooking show and really salivate over what the host is making? It looks so good and the ingredients sound really creative and interesting? Doesn't it make you hungry?

This is the opposite of that.

Fumbling around these here internets, I found a clip of a cooking show "Paula's Home Cooking". The host, Paula, is a southern woman who decides to demonstrate how to wrap macaroni and cheese with raw bacon and fry it. I repeat: she's making deep fried, bacon-wrapped macaroni and cheese. I'm no psychic, but I'm guessing your stomach hurts now.

There is so much wrong with this video, it's not even funny (ed: yes it is). Go ahead and count the number of things that are really wrong with it. I count 7, and I've listed them after the break.

To be clear, this is Paula's thinly veiled attempt to kill you. I gained weight just watching this video, and am now afraid I might suffer a heart attack in a few minutes. Watch at your own risk.

For those of you playing at home, the things that are wrong with this video are:

  • OK, obviously one is that she's frying up macaroni and cheese wrapped in bacon. Obviously, that'll probably kill you. Moving on...

  • In the beginning, after she describes what it is she's making, she can't help but laugh. It's almost as though this is one big sadistic practical joke for you, the viewer.

  • The size of the slices of mac and cheese Paula cuts could substitute for bricks in a housing project.

  • My personal favorite, Paula describes how recipes like this sometimes come to you by accident. I'm an avid lover of food, and I carry the weight to prove it. I've never once, no matter what I'm eating, ever thought "You know what? Let's wrap this in bacon and fry it!". You know why? I like living.

  • Paula's discussion of peanut oil. Not because of what she says, but because of what I imagine she originally wanted to say. It's almost like she wanted to say that frying in peanut oil is actually a relatively healthy oil to fry in. Then, she realized what the heck it was she was doing. Paula: do it right next time and fry it in Louie Anderson's back fat.

  • Paula says that the finished product "sounds beautiful". Paula, what you probably heard was the sound of your aorta tightening up in fear.

  • Lastly, Paula's reaction to eating the evil concoction. Something tells me that she's less-than-genuine when she says it's good.

Totally not posting anything relevant

This blog for me is seriously fun, but holding myself to adding to it 5 times a week poses a challenge. There are only two things that can stop me: writer's block and life getting in the way. While I thankfully still have not had any major bouts of writer's block, tonight it's life that's getting in the way. I've got a major report due tomorrow for work that's still not complete and as much as I like doing this blog, I like being gainfully employed more.

So I'm shamelessly mailing it in tonight. Here, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1UF6eDZutk.

Also, the heavy pack for TF2 comes out August 19th. Joy!

Flute Beatboxing: The coolest thing I've seen in years

Flute Beatboxing.

You know what a flute is. You know what beatboxing is. You may have an idea of what the two combined might be like. You're wrong. In a word: awesome. In more than one word: HOLY CRAP I CAN'T STOP HITTING THE REPLAY BUTTON.

Also, when the heck did The Unwind become a video blog?

The Legend of Neil 3

The next episode of The Legend of Neil is out. If you thought the last two were innappropriate, I highly recommend you not click play below. It's like a bajillion times more innappropriate. NSFW, to say the least.

Thanks, effin funny, you've effectively ruined my childhood. And made me laugh in the process.

A shotgun blast of content

Fitness update:
Since posting my intentions about a month ago, things haven't gone as well as planned. I've been keeping up with the WiiFit, but getting to the gym has not been as regular as I would have liked. Also, I scrapped the WeightWatchers thing because I didn't have anyone to go with (originally planning on going with Girlfriend). In all, I'm weighing in at 299.4 pounds, roughly .5 pounds higher than I was about a month ago, according to WiiFit, which could be much worse.

The problem isn't that I'm not staying active, it's just I'm eating too much. As it turns out, I'm addicted to food. I need it as many as 3 times a day, and when I don't get my fix I experience withdrawals and eventually relapse. Every day is a struggle.

Odd Squad update:
One of my old buddies recently revived a project of theirs, The Ice Anvil, to review pretty much whatever tickles their (it's a team of 2) fancy. It's a biting and bizarre take on the best and worst that culture - and sub-culture - have to offer. I've found it to be a great read so far and hope that these guys can keep up their level of output, both in volume and quality.

Unwind update:
You can now subscribe to The Unwind via an RSS feed that is now up and running. Maybe. I think. You see, I've used RSS feeds in the past, but I've never created one before. Blogger appears to have made it happen with only a few clicks of the mouse.

If you are having difficulty subscribing, blame it on the "Jonathan only spent 5 minutes on it so he can get to sleep at a reasonable hour" excuse. Oh, and let me know so I can fix it.

Video update:
It may contain stronger language, it may require a basic understanding of Pokemon, but it made me laugh time and again today:

SNL, Financial Planners?

The other day I stumbled across an SNL skit on how to get yourself out of debt:

The message is straightforward plan of "Don't Buy Stuff You Cannot Afford". It's a pretty sad state of affairs when it's up to a sketch comedy show to give Americans sound financial advice. Oh, sorry... didn't realize I was standing on a soapbox there.

Atlantic City Water Show

As promised, I've embedded the water show I saw at Caesar's Pier Shops in Atlantic City below. I was on the third floor looking down. Though this was done with my humble point-and-shoot digital camera, and unfortunately caught some of the chatter of nearby individuals, I think this video still captures the awesomeness of the show I saw.

Bombers commercial

A few years back, my college hangout (Bombers burrito bar in Albany, NY) had a contest where people submitted commercials for the place. A few of my friends and I decided to try our hand at it and, while we didn't win, we had a blast doing it. Enjoy!
