The Unwind on vacation (maybe)

Attention reader:

I am going on vacation like I mentioned previously. Because I'm a man of my word. I'm a man of many words, mostly because I need them to convey my thoughts. On this blog. Do you understand what I'm getting at? I'm getting some time to get away, get it?

I'll have internet access and, presumably, more coherence while away on this trip next week. Expect updates, but not regularly.

And remember, alliteration is always your friend.

The Unwind On Vacation - shameless parting plug edition

I'm going to be away from the internets for the rest of the week, taking one of two vacations left planned for the summer. Fortunately, the next vacation has internet access so the flow of crap consciousness that spews forth likely won't be as interrupted, if at all.

While I'm gone, you can enjoy all of the good inanity and ranting on The Fair Use Law Podcast as usual (and hey, subscribe to us via iTunes while you're at it).

Or, you could check out some of my work over at Top Cultured, which I still write for on occasion. The picture I made of Edward Cullen in my latest article still makes me lol when I see it. FYI, I only really write to entertain myself - your entertainment is just a nice by-product.

If you can read this, then you already know. I'm on vacation, and likely will be wrapping up my trip to Cape Cod by the time this gets posted.

I don't have anything to say, and really haven't the time to peruse the internets with distractions and wonders of the entertaining variety. So you'll have to make due with the following haiku:

Show and Tell: Trip down South

I recently came back from my trip that took me from Georgetown to Georgia, visiting several universities to learn more about various MBA programs.

On the school end of the trip I visited 5 schools in total. I discovered that Duke's school of business was not for me, and I won't be applying. All the other schools rocked in their own different way, and I will be applying to them all. The list includes:

• McDonough (Georgetown's School of Business)
• Darden (University of Virginia's School of business)
• Kenan-Flagler (UNC's school of business)
• Terry (University of Georgia's school of business)

But in addition to visiting schools, I saw a lot of family and friends down south that I hadn't seen in a while. Granted, between the near constant cycle of travelling and school visiting, I didn't have as much time to spend with them as I would have liked, but it was good to reconnect. Thanks for letting me crash on your couches, guys!

The highlight of these non-school musings was definitely spending Halloween in Athens, Georgia. Athens, for all intents and purposes, is a college city. So imagine a few thousand people my age all dressing up in costume and going to the bars. Even just chilling with a beer watching all the people walk by in their costumes was like an awesomely crazy parade.

My favorite part of Halloween, however, had to be just before me and my friend went out to the bars. We get dressed up in costume, him a fairly good replica of The Continental - an obscure Christopher Walken SNL sketch - and myself as the Burger King. We were hungry. And, well, this happened:



Needless to say, the people at McDonalds were pretty amused. The irony made the fries taste extra delicious.

The Unwind on quasi-vacation

Next week I'll be touring the east coast looking at business schools I hope to apply to this winter. While I'm out, I will have inconsistent access to the internet, and inconsistent desire to post while I'm driving all over the place. So to the disappointment of, well, me, I may or may not be updating The Unwind next week.

Happy Labor Day from The Unwind

Just wanted to let you know that I won't be posting as normal on Labor Day. I could use the day off, both from work and this self-imposed committment, to recharge. At least that's what I'm telling most people. Actually, I just plan to eat hot dogs and hamburgers until I go into a food coma.

Unwind to go on vacation - again

Going on vacation again, from Friday to Monday, to go camping out on Cape Cod with a bunch of college buddies of mine. Good food, good beer, good times... but no blog updates. It's not my fault, it's just the simple math of it all: No contributors = no contributions.

I'll be back next Tuesday, again with pictures and stories and whatnot.

Who (brotherly) loves you, baby?

Just got back from Philadelphia with my girlfriend and it was amazing.

Philadelphia has a rich tradition of not realizing that July 4th is only one calendar day. They celebrate our nation's independance for an entire week, so it was really cool to arrive on July 5th and still partake in many of festivities. Some of the highlights:

• Saw a free Boyz II Men concert, followed by fireworks at Penn's Landing.
• Went to many awesome restaurants, the best of which was Davio's - a really fancy northern italian restaurant that served one of the best steaks I've ever eaten in my life.
• Cheesesteaks.
• Got to play in an area with oversized board game pieces. Apparently, Philadelphia is the home of Monopoly. Games are serious business there.
• Took a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the city, which really helped with getting around the city without having to pay for cabs. As a result, we went to the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, Philadelphia Art Museum, JFK plaza and many of the other Philadelphia landmarks.
• The Warwick Raddison Hotel was absolutely amazing, from the room to the people there. If you're ever visiting Philly, I highly recommend this place.

It wasn't all pleasantries, though. The weather wasn't always cooperative, fluctuating anywhere between really muggy and rain. And when I say rain, I'm talking biblical rain. The forty days, forty nights kinda rain. I'm not exaggerating, I've got pictures (below) to prove it.

Also, we had the pleasure of having Hotels.com cancel our reservation on us when I was trying to find out more information about my booking. Much to my surprise, the front desk called up about 5PM Sunday wondering when I'd be checking out. Hotels.com hung up on me twice when I tried to call them to resolve the issue. Bastards. Fortunately, the people at the Warwick were top notch and helped escalate and resolve the issue. Needless to say I'm never booking with Hotels.com (or their parent company Expedia) ever again.

Still, despite the setbacks and misfires, I loved this trip. Check out after the break for some of the more memorable photos taken there.

Happy 4th from The Unwind

Happy 4th of July, everyone!

Just wanted to take the opportunity to alert you that I'll be going on vacation again (to Philadelphia) from Saturday to Tuesday. Therefore, I won't be able to update The Unwind again until next Wednesday.

I hope to once again have a bunch of stories and pictures and videos from the event to share. That is, if the cheesesteaks don't clog up my heart first.

Unwind updates and other housekeeping

Figured I'd take care of a few housekeeping items.

In order to not clutter up the homepage too much, I've implemented a "continue to read X" link at the bottom of the posts. Unfortunately I haven't gotten it working perfectly, as every post currently has one, whether or not I've hidden any of the post.

Currently, just today's Horatio Comics post has anything worth going to the "continue to read X" link. In the future, I hope to only have that link show up when there's content behind it, but I largely don't know what I'm doing and am learning as I'm implementing. Bear with me.

Also, as a heads-up, I'll be on vacation Thursday and Friday. And since I'm the sole content contributor on this blog, that means The Unwind is going on vacation too. Sorry to disappoint all 5 of you (myself included in that number). I'll be back next Monday, hopefully with amusing anecdotes and pictures to share.
